Shrovetide Festivities at Turaida

On Sunday, February 15th at 13:00, Turaida Museum Reserve invites visitors to the Shrovetide celebrations, to experience ancient Latvian traditions, songs, and games.
During the event, visitors will have the opportunity to experience the joys typical of Shrovetide - meet Meteņs and Pelnāzis, participate in games, competitions, and revelry, as well as enjoy Shrovetide treats - porridge and pancakes. Activities are designed for the whole family, creating a joyful and lively festive atmosphere.
Special attention will also be given to Shrovetide masks - visitors are invited to prepare them in advance, but for those who won't manage, there will be an opportunity to make a mask on the spot.
Shrovetide rituals and games will be led by the Sigulda folklore group "Senleja" and the Lēdurga folklore group "Putni", sharing their knowledge and experience of ancient traditions.
The event will take place from 13:00 to 16:00. Participation in the event requires tickets for entry to Turaida Museum Reserve. Take the opportunity to also visit the museum exhibitions in the castle and gardener's house on this day, as well as climb the main tower of the castle to admire the mighty Gauja valley from a bird's eye view. Turaida Museum Reserve is open from 10:00 to 17:00.
The event will be held outdoors. Please dress according to the weather conditions.
Before and after the event, you are welcome to visit the Forest Park - the paths are cleared, and the park is accessible for winter walks.
